Batesville group writing out thanks to veterans

BATESVILLE, AR (KAIT) – The Batesville Area Arts Council is asking residents to salute the state's veterans by writing them a thank-you note.

For the past few years, the arts council has created special note cards with patriotic artwork drawn by local children.

People can then sign one of the cards and have it sent to the Arkansas Veterans Hospital.

Colleen Jackson, the arts council's executive director, says their efforts have not gone unnoticed.

"We have received letters from the veterans' hospital in the past," Jackson said, "and they share with us how important these are when these veterans receive those (letters) that they're not forgotten and that they are appreciated for whichever aspect of the service they were in."

To sign a card, stop by the arts council's galley, located at 246 E. Main Street in Batesville.

The arts council hopes to mail all the notes by November 7 at the latest so that they get to the hospital by Veterans Day.
