JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – A Jonesboro man is facing a drunk and disorderly charge after a five-hour standoff with law enforcement Saturday night.

Jonesboro police said a relative of Shawn Strickland called JPD because Strickland was acting strangely, and the family member was concerned that he may harm himself.

Patrol officers and supervisors found the 35-year-old man armed with a handgun and acting aggressively.  According to police, "supervisors felt for his safety and the safety of officers responding that they would go into a protection mode."

Police say after about five hours of negotiations, negotiators convinced Strickland to put down his handgun, and officers use "a distraction device and less lethal rounds" in order to subdue Strickland and take him to a local hospital to be treated for physical and mental welfare.
