Memphis church praying for political peace

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Members of a Memphis church are praying for political peace as the presidential election looms.

Congregants at Idlewild Presbyterian Church began their vigil at noon Sunday, signing up to pray at specific times through election day on Tuesday.

Mark Jones of the church's peacemaking committee told The Commercial Appeal ( ) the prayers are being offered because of what he called ugliness between parties and among candidates.

Margaret Burnett is an associate pastor at Idlewild. She said the prayers being offered are nonpartisan and seek wise and faithful leadership in government.
