Holden tied for seventh at ASU Fall Beach Classic to lead Red Wolves

Hosting the inaugural ASU Fall Beach Classic at the Peninsula Golf and Racquet Club, the Arkansas State men's golf team completed the two-day tournament's opening 36 holes with a combined 610 to finish Monday's play in 10th place among 13 teams.

Chance Holden posted a 74 and 72 for the first and second rounds, respectively, and is tied for seventh place to lead the Red Wolves.  Holden is four strokes behind second-place Patrick Newcomb of Murray State, while Troy's Tolver Dozier turned in a 5-under par 139 to lead the field.

A-State ended the first round in seventh place with a 304, but tacked two strokes onto that total during the following round to slip three places in the standings.  The Red Wolves trail ninth-place New Orleans by three strokes and is within nine strokes of fifth-place Troy.  Murray State and Stephen F. Austin both recorded a combined 588 to end the day tied for first place and Vanderbilt is only one stroke behind in third.

ASU's Easton Key, Seth Garner and Matt Howton are all among the top-50 individual leaders.  Key stands tied for 36th place with a 153, Garner tied for 40th with a 154 and Howton tied for 48th with a 156.  Garner, along with Eli Mattioli and Tommy Eagan, is competing as an individual.

Also competing for A-State, Wessel Zwiegers shot a 157 to place him tied for 51st and Alex Hewitt and Mattioli both posted a 163 to put them in a tie for 63rd.  Eagan is in 66th place with a 164.

The tournament's third and final round will be played Tuesday.
