Harding Football no. 4 in Super Region 3 rankings

The Harding football team is ranked No. 4 in the NCAA II Super Region 3 Rankings, released Monday by the NCAA.

Harding fell one spot from last week despite winning 31-9 over Southeastern Oklahoma on Saturday in Durant, Okla. Northwest Missouri State moved up to No. 3, likely due to a higher strength-of-schedule component.

Harding plays its final game of the regular season on Saturday at First Security Stadium, hosting Southwestern Oklahoma State at 2 p.m.

Super Region 3 is made up of teams from the Great American Conference, Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, Great Northwest Conference, and Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.

Harding is 8-1 overall and has played all its games against Division II competition. The Bisons last won eight of their first nine games 40 seasons ago, in 1972.

The top six teams from each of the four Super Regions qualify for the NCAA II playoffs. The top two teams in each region receive a bye. The No. 3 seed hosts the No. 6 seed, and the No. 4 seed hosts the No. 5 seed in the first round on Nov. 17.

Harding is seeking its first berth in the NCAA playoffs and its first playoff berth since making the 1992 NAIA playoffs.

Monday's ranking is the final weekly ranking of the season. The 24-team field for the NCAA playoffs will be announced on NCAA.com on Sunday, Nov. 11 at 4 p.m. CT.
