JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Incumbent Republican Rick Crawford has won his second term representing Arkansas' First District in the U.S. House. Congressman Crawford was first elected to the U.S. House in 2010, and became the first Republican elected to the seat since Reconstruction days after the Civil War. Crawford defeated his Democratic opponent, Prosecuting Attorney, Scott Ellington of Jonesboro.
Ellington had challenged Congressman Crawford's record in regard to helping constituent farmers in the First District, but failed to sway enough votes to win. Rep. Crawford is expected to continue his work on an U.S. House agricultural committee.
Crawford's lead was holding steady at 58% to 37% at this hour when declared the winner by the Associated Press.
