JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Craighead County voters elected Green Party candidate Kade Holliday as the next County Clerk. Holliday defeated Democratic incumbent Nancy Nelms.
Nelms had been the clerk through six terms, since 2000. She had been at the center of an accounting error earlier in 2012 when it was discovered the county owed the Internal Revenue Service approximately $300,000 in back payroll taxes. Nelms admitted she made a mistake and the Quorum Court passed a resolution of no confidence in Nelms.
Holliday, a Green Party member, is a life-long Jonesboro resident and holds a Masters degree in Business Administration from Arkansas State University.
