Democrat Robert Thompson apparent winner in tight AR State Senate race


PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) - Voters in northeast Arkansas reelected District 20 State Senator Robert Thompson to a second term.  Thompson, a Democrat, defeated challenger Republican Blake Johnson.

Thompson defeated Johnson by a slim margin - unofficial results showed Thompson ahead 13,079 to 12,695. Both candidates and their political parties, spent thousands of dollars in advertising for the race. 

This will be Thompson's second term in office, having previously served in the State House of Representatives.  Johnson, a farmer, has been an alderman for the City of Corning.

State Senate District 20 includes parts of Greene, Clay, Lawrence, Randolph and Craighead Counties.
