HARRISBURG, AR (KAIT)- A group of Region 8 elementary students worked hard for an entire year to get to this day!
A Veterans Appreciation Ceremony took place at Harrisburg Elementary School. Students at HES gathered together all of their change and raised money to purchase an "Honor and Remember" flag.
The Brooks family was given the flag in honor of their son, Staff Sgt. Paul F. Brooks.
Nikki Winn, Staff Sgt. Brooks' sister, says, "I think it's just the most wonderful thing that anyone has ever done for us since this happened. For these kids to go out and collect money, present my parents with a flag in honor of my brother... its just more than anybody could ask for."
The students raised enough money to purchase two flags; the second flag will hang in their school.
