VALPARAISO, Ind. (AStateRedWolves.com) – The Arkansas State women's bowling team is in first place after the first day of the Crusader Classic at Inman's Bowling and Recreation hosted by Valparaiso University.
Arkansas State ended the day with a 4-1 record in Baker matches. A-State defeated No. 14 Wisconsin-Whitewater 1002-941 in match one, then recorded a victory against No. 4 Vanderbilt 1124-1021. The Red Wolves defeated Salem International University 1086-668 and host No. 9 Valparaiso 981-910 in consecutive matches, before falling to No. 6 Central Missouri 1009-973 in their final match of the day.
Overall, A-State leads in total pinfall with 5166. Central Missouri is in second place with a pinfall total of 5127, followed by Nebraska with a total of 5099.
"We bowled really well today, and we'll be in good shape if we bowl like that tomorrow," ASU head coach Justin Kostick said. "It was really nice to get a big win over a very good Vanderbilt squad and to do it by bowling over 1120 was great."
The tournament will resume Saturday at 9 a.m.
