JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Arkansas State University's Beck PRIDE Center hosted a "Support Our Troops Drive" today to commemorate Veteran's Day and collect donations for Region 8 troops.
The group took donations for the ARNG 1039th Engineer Battalion from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. outside Liberty Bank on Highland, across from the Mall at Turtle Creek.
Beck PRIDE Center director Sandra Worlow said the organization is hoping to see support similar to the outpour during the first donation drive in 2008. "They are always so giving when the troops are deployed, and we just wanted to right here before the holidays try to send them some packages and let them know that we're thinking about them and we appreciate all that they do in Afghanistan for us."
"Please support these troops. These young men and women are fighting for us and they're putting their life out on the line. They're sacrificing for our freedom. Please come out and contribute," said PRIDE Center Services Specialist Kelly McCoy.
The event is co-sponsored by the following:
ASU College of Nursing and Health Professions
Liberty Bank
Jonesboro Radio Group
NEA Veteran Organizations (DAV, VFW, American Legion, MOAA, MOPH, ASVO, Craighead County Monument Foundation, Craighead, Greene, Poinsett County Service Offices)
