POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) -
A 12-year-old girl from Poplar Bluff has a special message.
Megan Elders decided for her 12th birthday instead getting presents, she wanted her friends to donate shoes to send to kids in Africa.
"You feel really good knowing that somebody out there gets those shoes are happy now," said Megan.
Elders says she got the idea after watching TV and noticing a lot of kids walking around barefoot.
Her parents say the idea surprised them, but they are proud of their daughter.
""She says it's not fair that we have so much stuff and those kids over there don't even have shoes," said Kurtis Elders, Megan's dad. "So, that's what she wants to do."
"Just the fact that she's willing to give up her toys for somebody else, she sees that need and is willing to chip in and do what she can to make things better," said Rebecca Elders, Megan's mom.
