BLYTHEVILLE, AR (KAIT) - Mississippi County residents will observe Veterans Day with a ceremony in front of the County courthouse in Blytheville Monday morning.
Ellen Bazemore said the ceremony brought back memories of military life with her husband T.J., who died in January 2012. One of his duties was serving as a ground crew chief for Air Force One when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated.
"I was married to a charter Chief Master Sergeant," she said. "We were married for 67 years."
The crowd at the Mississippi County courthouse listened to veterans talk about their experiences during their times of service.
Former Marine Corps Sergeant Mike Connealy was one of them. "I spent most of my time in San Diego, and then from San Diego I got called to Korea during the Korean War. War broke out in June of 1950 and I got there December, Christmas Day 1950."
Connealy was grateful to be able to share his experience, although he thought one thing would have made the day more complete.
"I have in my pocket a list of 150 guys I was with in Korea, and we have had for the last 20 years, not this year, reunions," he said. "I wish all of my teammates that I was in the Corps with were here."
