(KAIT) - Twenty year old Austin Baxter scored big on the opening day of modern gun season. Austin used a rifle to bag this nine point buck, Saturday morning. This buck was harvested from the south unit of the White River Refuge.
As Austin reported to me, the deer weighed 236 lbs. "field dressed", and an AGFC Wildlife officer gross scored the nine point at 171 inches.
Austin exclaimed, "This is not my first deer, but it is by far the largest I have ever killed" !
I have heard reports from several hunters that indicate there are a lot of deer this year, as evidenced by the number of rubs & scrapes they have found.
If you are as successful as Austin Baxter, let me know and I will try to get your success story on KAIT's Outdoors Page.
