CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

It's that time of year! Your yard is probably covered in leaves. If you haven't already raked them up, there are a lot of options as to what to do with them.

In Cape Girardeau, there is curbside collection, Wednesday special pickup, free drop off and composting.

The City of Cape Girardeau recently bought a new automated leaf truck which allows them to pick up leaves more frequently and quickly.

Leaf season pickup began November 5, 2012 and will end on March 29, 2012. According to the City of Cape Girardeau's website, the automated leaf truck will travel every residential street in Cape Girardeau picking up leaves that have been raked to the curb.

When every street has been covered, they say they will start the route over again.

There is no formal zone plan or need to schedule a pickup.  However you can track the truck by clicking here.

For the Wednesday special pickup for leaves, you need city compost bags.

You can find those at Schnucks, Food Giant, City Hall, and Public Works.

The cost is 5 for $6.25.

After you fill the bags, you will schedule a special pickup. There is no charge for the pickup.

The city's compost holding area is also open November 5 through December 21.

During this time, according to the city 's website, just bring your leaves to 453 Cooper Street, Monday through Friday between noon and 4:00 PM or on Saturdays from 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM.

This option is for City of Cape Girardeau residents only and no limbs are allowed.

After leaf season, or if you have a small amount of leaves, you can also take them to the Recycling Center at 2007 Southern Expressway for no charge.

The compost is "aged" and made available in the southeast corner of Arena Park on a first come first serve basis.

Meantime, Paul Schnare with Sunny Hill Gardens & Florist says your best bet though, is to keep the leaves and mulch them yourself!

"If it were mine I would much rather mulch them because then your taking the leaves and actually using them in the soil of your landscape." Schnare says.

"So you're using that leaf that has been given to us," he added.
