Westside alum Mollie Arnold named GAC Player of the Year

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (HardingSports.com) – The Harding volleyball team had five players named All-Great American Conference on Wednesday in a release by the conference office.

Junior outside hitter Mollie Arnold and senior setter Amber Schinzing were named to the first team. Middle blockers Liv Savage and Alyssa Short were named to the second team and senior right-side hitter Bailee Graham was honorable mention.

Harding also had two individual honors. Mollie Arnold received the GAC Player of the Year award by unanimous vote and head coach Meredith Fear received the GAC Coach of the Year award. It's the first time both recipients have won their award.

It's the second consecutive year Arnold, native of Bono, Ark., has been named first team All-GAC. She was the only HU recipient last season. Arnold led Harding and the GAC in kills this season with an average of 3.99 a set and also averaged 2.93 digs per set.

Amber Schinzing, a native of Orlando, Fla., controlled the Lady Bison offense this season. Schinzing lead the GAC in assists, averaging 11.09 a set.

Junior Alyssa Short, a native of The Woodlands, Texas, averaged 2.14 kills per set and led HU in blocks with 92 (0.82 a set).

Sophomore Liv Savage, a native of Amarillo, Texas, led Harding in hitting this season with a .286 hitting percentage. She also averaged 2.17 kills and was second on the team in blocks with 87 (0.85 a set).

Bailee Graham, a native of Austin, Texas, averaged 1.96 kills per set and was third on the team in hitting with a .262 hitting percentage.

The All-GAC teams were chosen by the GAC coaches.

The Lady Bisons will host the GAC Tournament this week (Nov. 15-17) at the Rhodes Field House. Harding will play Southeastern Oklahoma State at 5 p.m., on Thursday, Nov. 15.
