From Williams Baptist College
The Williams Baptist College basketball squad traveled to Paragould, Ark., to play against Crowley's Ridge College in a non-conference match-up Thursday night. The result was a 96-66 blowout victory for the Eagles.
After conceding the first bucket of the game, Williams scored back-to-back buckets to gain the lead and proceeded to go on a 12-0 run. The lead would never be relinquished the rest of the contest. Every player dressed out for Williams played in the contest, and 12 different players scored a basket. The lead would get as high as 32 points in the second half before ending at 96-66.
The Eagles' defense was relentless all night, forcing 21 turnovers on 14 steals. Kyle Harvey led the team with four takeaways. Charles Trotter, Jr., added three, and Donovan Coleman and Dustin House chipped in two apiece.
Williams held a rebounding advantage of 53-44. It was a collective effort, as four Eagles had at least seven boards. Harvey led with 10, followed by Chase Norwood, Coleman and Trotter with seven each.
The team shot 46 percent from the field for the contest. Harvey led the team with 27 points on 12-of-18 shooting, making both of his 3-point field goal attempts. He has now led the team in scoring in every game this season. Zabian Sanders scored 13 points, with all of his points coming in the first half. Norwood and House also reached double figures with 12 apiece.
The victory improves WBC's season record to 3-1.
The Eagles will travel to Memphis on Saturday to play Christian Brothers University. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. They will return home for the last game before thanksgiving on Monday, November 19. Williams will host CRC in a rematch of Thursday's contest. The tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and will be played in the Southerland-Mabee Center.
