From Arkansas State University
Arkansas State head women's basketball coach Brian Boyer announced Friday that
guard Jamie Ruffins and forward Aundrea Pipkins have signed National Letters of
Intent to continue their careers with the Red Wolves.
Ruffins, a 5-8
point guard from Little Rock Central High School, was ranked as the No. 37 point
guard in the nation by ESPN's HoopGurlz and was also given a 3-star rating by
the publication. She averaged 9.3 points, 4.2 assists and 2.3 rebounds a game
while playing for the Arkansas Mavericks in summer league competition.
At
Little Rock Central, she averaged 10 points per game, four rebounds, three
assists and three steals a night. She was also a two-time all-conference
selection, a four-year varsity starter, a three-time all-tournament team
selection at the McDonald's Shootout in Paragould, Ark., and an all-tournament
team selection at the Lady Bulldog Classic in Fayetteville, Ark., last
season.
"It was crucial that we signed a quality point guard during this
early signing period," Boyer said. "I have been Jamie's biggest fan for the past
two years. She is the true tone setter on both ends of the court. I am anxious
to get Jamie on campus because she fits everything we're about both on the court
and off the court."
Pipkins, a 6-3 forward from Madison High School in
Fresno, Texas, averaged 6.1 points and 8.1 rebounds as a junior last season. She
was recognized as an all-district selection on the Houston Chronicle's all-area
team and was selected as one of the rising stars in the state of Texas by the
Texas Basketball Preview publication after her junior season.
"I am
really looking forward to getting Aundrea on campus and working with her," Boyer
said. "She is very physically gifted with good height, length and speed. Even
at 6-3 she is capable of facing up and could eventually become a real match-up
problem as she develops her perimeter
skills."
Premierbasketballreport.com also recognized her as one of
the top-100 players in the state and the website also listed her as a top-10
post player in the state.
The early signing period for the class of 2013
runs from Nov. 14-21.
