(WMC-TV) - Southwest Airlines is making a serious push against traditional airlines as they continue adding flights in the mid-section of the country.
The low cost carrier continues to add destinations out of St Louis, now offering 91 flights out of its airport, making St. Louis the 10th busiest airport for the airline.
Nashville added another Southwest flight this year. It will be a direct flight to Seattle giving the music city more 70 Southwest Airlines flights.
And same goes for Little Rock, its airport has more than 70 Southwest flights.
"Technically they are already a reality here. They've signed a long term lease here and looking at facilities within the airport," said Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority President and CEO Larry Cox.
It is unclear how many flights will originate from Memphis. Larry Cox with the Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority said last month it should be more than the one flight Airtran currently runs now.
"We don't know the cities they will serve out of Memphis, but they currently serve Atlanta and we expect them to serve a number of other cities," said Cox.
The low cost carrier is expanding across the country with Memphis on the list for next year.
