JONESBORO-- General Motors and Ford watch their sales tank last month. The auto industry saw its' lowest sales since August 1998, but their misfortune could be your gain.

GM whose sales declined 12% in June is offering cash rebates of up to $ 5000 on most remaining 2004 models and as much as $ 2000 on some 2005 models.

Ford is also beefing up their deals including interest-free loans for 60 months. Their sales dropped 8% last month. Even though business has been good on local GM and Ford lots. Consumers can still take advantage of the of the rising incentives.

GM and Ford are hopeful new vehicle launches scheduled in the second half of the year will also spark more business. Neither company has announced plans to cut production. As for now both companies are hopping that their traditional two-week summer production shut down will help lower the number of cars sitting on the lots.
