ASU will face Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week Saturday

The 2012 Sun Belt Conference football championship hangs in the balance as Arkansas State hosts Middle Tennessee on Saturday. Both teams enter the game at 6-1 in Sun Belt play on the year and the winner will be the outright champion. The game will be available on ESPN3 with a kickoff of 2 p.m. (CT) scheduled.

Five Sun Belt Conference teams are bowl eligible this season – marking a new record for the league. Additionally, the league has already set its all-time record for non-conference wins this season with more opportunities for wins still to come.

Defensive Player of the Week

Kevin Byard (Middle Tennessee, r-Fr., DB)
Safety Kevin Byard forced three Troy turnovers in Middle Tennessee's 24-21 win over Troy on Saturday. He had a season-high two interceptions, including a 77-yard interception return for the eventual game-winning touchdown in the fourth quarter. His first interception led to a Blue Raider field goal in the opening quarter. Byard also had a forced fumble, a pass breakup, and six tackles as the Blue Raiders' snapped a six-game losing streak to Troy and won their eighth game of the season. He now leads the team with four interceptions on the year, and is one of three Blue Raiders with two forced fumbles.
