Arkansas possibly making a play for Les Miles

Posted: Updated:
BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

LSU head coach Les Miles will get a lot of questions at Wednesday's two o'clock news conference about internet reports running rampant that the school he once called Ar-kansas is interested in Miles as a possible replacement for Bobby Petrino.

Sources close to the LSU Athletic Department told WAFB Tuesday night Athletic Director Joe Alleva has a decision to make, if he wants to keep Les Miles as the school's football coach.

Miles hasn't responded publicly to the report of a 5-year, $27.5 million offer made to representatives of his interests.

Those sources say the relationship between Miles and Alleva, who did not hire Miles to replace Nick Saban eight years ago, may not be strong enough to keep Miles from going to Arkansas, where Jeff Long, who worked with Miles at Michigan, is now athletic director.

The Arkansas offer is about eight million dollars more over that span than Miles' current deal.

LSU officials refused comment on the offer first reported on the Sports By Brooks blog and picked up by outlets around the country.

His agent George Bass is quoted in follow up reports by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette as saying there's "nothing going on like that."

The Razorbacks announced Saturday they were parting ways with interim head coach John L. Smith.

With offenses becoming increasingly explosive, plugging the holes is more imperative than ever. It's no surprise Alabama and Florida top the list, but the rest of the rankings may surprise you.
