PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) - Sixty five volunteers and $5,000 later, the women's dorm at Mission Outreach is now renovated thanks to a lot of hard work.
"This area, over 28,000 square feet has not been touched in over two decades," Executive Director of Mission Outreach, Jamie Collins said Friday, that all changed. Volunteers with Teleflora replaced old ceiling tiles and tore out the existing carpet. Something that Collins said was a long time coming.
"It was a disastrous mess as they were pulling it out, you could tell the smells were going out with it," Collins said.
"They definitely needed some help here," Ricky Marshall with Teleflora told Region 8 News. The volunteers who came out to renovate the dorms on the second floor of Mission Outreach left with more than just dirt under their nails Friday evening.
"They love it. It's a big opportunity for them," Marshall said. "It's a lot of good work."
Good work that Collins said was much appreciated.
"Teleflora has brought our own 'Women's Dorm: Home Makeover!'" Collins enthused. As Teleflora did more than just donate money. "Some people give but they really give. They really made the difference. They backed up their monetary actions with themselves physically and we could never thank them enough."
One woman who benefits from Mission Outreach told Region 8 News that she and all the other women are thankful for all the volunteering and hard work that will give them a newly renovated place to sleep at night.
"We've got a nice place to live and a roof over our heads," Dorothy said. "It's kind of like having a nice house to live in like your own place so it's really nice."
But, Teleflora said this isn't the last of their service projects. "The service projects that we started this year, we'll be doing more of in the years to come," Marshall told Region 8 News.
Collins said she hopes this isn't the last of the improvements to come to Mission Outreach, "our next greatest need now is to replace the bedding and the furniture."
So if you think you have a service project for Teleflora, let them know about it. Collins also wants people to know if they have bedding or furniture that's in good to excellent condition, they'd be happy to take it off your hands for you.
