JONESBORO--The E. Boone Watson Community Center right here in Jonesboro got a special gift on Saturday.
A historical monument dedicated to the site this afternoon recognizes the hard work by community members to preserve and remember African-American culture in Region 8, and across the south.
The center conducted tours today, as part of the Booker T. Washington High School reunion.
There are nearly 60 exhibits in the center including photos, newspaper articles, and other pieces of African-American historic memorabilia.
Roger McKinney lives in Jonesboro, and he visited the cultural center on Saturday.
"Jonesboro African-Americans along with other cultures can be proud of this facility,"said McKinney.
The community center is located at on 1005 East Logan Street.
