BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) - Greg Gantt finished with 29 points, and Stefan Moody came off the bench to score 22 as Florida Atlantic beat Arkansas State 72-65 Saturday night in a Sun Belt Conference showdown.
Trailing 32-31 at halftime, FAU (3-4, 1-1) opened the second half on a 19-7 run to take a 50-39 lead. The run was spurred by three 3s, one from Jackson Trapp and two from Gantt.
Arkansas State (4-3, 0-2) fought back taking the lead 57-56 on Brandon Peterson's layup with 6:17 left to play, but Gantt answered, scoring eight straight points for the Owls, giving them the 64-59 advantage with under three minutes to play.
The Red Wolves would get within three, 66-63 with 38 seconds left, but FAU connected on its last eight free throws to seal the victory.
