Arkansas State to play in Bowl

JONESBORO (KAIT) - Arkansas State University accepted an invitation to play in the Bowl on January 6, 2013 at Ladd Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Alabama against Kent State. The game will be played at 8pm CST and aired on ESPN.
Arkansas State finished the football season as the 2012 Sun Belt Conference champions beating Middle Tennessee State 45 - 0 in what was billed as the conference championship.
Arkansas State (9-3, 7-1 Sun Belt) will play #25 Kent State, the second place team from the Mid-America Conference.  Kent State (11-2, 8-0 MAC) lost in double overtime to Northern Illinois in the MAC championship game.  NIU will play in the Orange Bowl.
This will be second bowl appearance in as many years and the third since 2005 when the then Indians played Southern Mississippi in the displaced New Orleans Bowl in Lafayette, Louisiana due to Hurricane Katrina.
The Red Wolves, 2011 Sun Belt Conference champions, lost to Northern Illinois in last season's Bowl in Mobile, Alabama 38-20.  The Red Wolves were coached in that game by Interim Head Coach/Running Backs Coach David Gunn after Head Coach Hugh Freeze and a number of assistants accept similar positions at Ole Miss.

Arkansas State encourages its fans to buy bowl tickets through its box office at or 1888-ASU-FANS (or 870-972-ASU1) beginning Monday.
