Harding Football, Women's Soccer earn GAC Sportsmanship Awards

From Harding University

On Wednesday, the Great American Conference announced the winners of the league's inaugural sportsmanship awards as the office handed out the honors for the fall sports: men's cross country, women's cross country, volleyball, football and women's soccer.
Harding received two of the sportsmanship awards. The Lady Bisons' women's soccer team and the Bisons football team that made its first-ever appearance in the Division II Championships captured their respective sportsmanship awards. Ouachita Baptist claimed the accolade for volleyball. Southern Arkansas captured the honor for men's cross country and GAC champion East Central earned the distinction for women's cross country.

"These awards tie into the NCAA Division II emphasis on sportsmanship and game environment," GAC Commissioner Will Prewitt said.  "We are proud of these initial winners that have displayed success on the scoreboard and in ways that aren't necessarily reflected in wins and losses."
The Great American Conference's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee initiated a sportsmanship award to be presented for all team sports. The winning school will receive a banner similar to the one presented to GAC tournament championship winners.
The goal of the program is for member institutions to promote good sportsmanship among its teams, fans, and all involved with the events.
The winners of the GAC Team Sportsmanship Awards were chosen by league officials and coaches based on a point system.
