1 teen released, other remains in custody in shooting death

BLYTHEVILLE, AR (KAIT) - Blytheville Police have charged one of the teens arrested in the shooting death of another teen while he was walking home from school Thursday.

According to Blytheville Police, two teens were arrested in connection with the shooting. A 15-year-old teen was released and the 16-year-old remains in custody.

That 16 year-old has been charged as an adult with first degree murder.  He remains in jail with a $250,000 cash bond.

Blytheville Police say 18 year old Miguel Estrada was shot on the 1100 block of Holly Street around 3:30pm Thursday while walking home from school.

Estrada was taken to the Great River Medical Emergency Room where he later died.

Blytheville Police originally held two teens, ages 15 and 16, in connection with the shooting death, but released the 15-year-old.

Their names have not been released, pending official charges being filed.

Chief Thompson states the shooting is not a random act of violence, that Estrada and the suspects knew each other and appeared to have a history of threats between them.
