From Arkansas State University
Arkansas State head baseball coach Tommy Raffo has announced the dates for the
Tommy Raffo Winter baseball camp series for youth, junior high school and high
school players.
Instructors for the camp will include coach Raffo,
Arkansas State assistant coaches Tighe Dickinson, Anthony Everman and Noah
Sanders along with current Red Wolves baseball players.
The first camp
held will be the Youth Hitting Camp on Saturday, January 12th where campers will
be instructed on the proper form and techniques of hitting the ball. This camp
is intended for player's ages 7-11 and will begin at 8:15 a.m. continuing to
noon. Cost for this camp is $50 and includes a t-shirt.
Later that day,
the Red Wolves will host the Youth Pitching/Defensive Specialty Camp from 1:15-5
p.m.. This camp will teach proper technique in pitching and defensive play and
is intended for player's ages 7-11. Cost for this camp is also $50, but if
players choose to take both the Youth Hitting and Youth Pitching/Defensive
Specialty Camp the cost for both is $90.
On Sunday January 13th the Red
Wolves staff will host similar camps for their Junior High School aged players.
The Junior High School Hitting Camp and Junior High School Pitching/Defensive
Specialty Camp will teach players similar technique to the Youth camps and
pricing and timing for the Junior High camps is identical to that of the Youth
Camp.
For High School age players, the Red Wolves will host a High School
Prospect Camp on Saturday January 19th. The prospect camp will run from 8:30
a.m. – 4 p.m. and will allow players in 9-12th grades to be evaluated and
educated on the collegiate recruiting process. These players will be tested and
will be instructed on how to improve their skill set. Cost for this camp is $100
and includes a t-shirt and lunch.
Campers must bring their own hat,
glove, helmet, bat, and suitable baseball attire (baseball pants). Catchers
should bring their own catching gear. Tennis shoes will be worn indoors if there
is bad weather. Campers should have their name clearly printed on all of their
own equipment.
"We are excited about starting 2013 with our Winter
Camps," said Raffo. "We have split the youth ages into two groups, 7-11 and
12-13, in our camps to ensure quality instruction and attention. Our high
school prospect camp provides a great way for those wanting to improve their
skill set and be evaluated for the next level. It will be a great way to get
the New Year started with Red Wolf baseball."
