KILGORE, TX (KLTV) -

The Kilgore Police Department is warning parents about a new app on their Facebook page. The app, called "Whisper," is gaining popularity among students at local schools. However, law enforcement personnel are concerned that the app may foster bullying, harassment and inappropriate content.

"Whisper," available for free for both the iOS and Android platforms, is described on its developer's website as a way to "share secrets, express yourself and meet people."

However, since all content is posted anonymously, the possibility for bullying and harassment is a major concern for authorities. According to Kilgore Police, Kilgore school resource officers have spent a lot of time dealing with problems related to the app.

The Kilgore Police Department is asking parents to be aware of "Whisper" and the risk of children using the app without supervision.
