Grizzlies CEO: 'We're doing so great. I expect it to continue'

MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - The "Grit and Grind" of the Memphis Grizzlies is paying off.

This season, the Grizzlies have won 14 of their 18 games. Their winning ways are making them the talk of the town.

The new guy in charge, CEO Jason Levien, has been on the job less than two months, but there has not been a dull moment.

"Little bit of a whirlwind. I tell people I've been drinking out of a fire hose," said Levien. "Trying to get my arms around the organization, learning more about the community, learning more about the team. So it's a lot to swallow. It's great stuff. It's all very positive."

The change in ownership was announced November 5.

While Robert Pera is the controlling stakeholder, Levien is in charge of the day-to-day.

"It's a lot of stress. No, it's exciting," he said. "I love the game of basketball. You gotta love the NBA, its growth. This city is a basketball city. To do it here where we're so relevant and so important in the community. It's fantastic."

Especially now, as the Grizz roar through the NBA, sending expectations for the season skyrocketing.

"I told Robert, ‘This is easy!' We come in, we're doing so great. I expect it to continue. We're gonna continue. We're gonna hold ourselves to a level and a standard of excellence both on the court with winning games and the fan experience and the community engagement that we deliver," said Levien.

"It's a marathon, not a sprint. And we wanna be successful in Memphis for the long haul and that's what we're hoping to do," he continued.

The Grizzlies return to the friendly confines of FedEx Forum to host the Chicago Bulls on Monday. They will play at home next Wednesday and Friday, too.
