WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama welcomes Jewish leaders to the annual White House Hanukkah party this evening.
The invitation-only event is one of the season's hottest tickets.
It's being held on the sixth night of the eight-day Jewish festival of lights.
The menorah at the White House Hanukkah party is on loan from a New York synagogue that was flooded during Superstorm Sandy.
The library of Temple Israel on Long Island was inundated with 10 feet of water, destroying Torah scrolls, prayer books and classic Jewish literature. Rabbi David Bauman said he was "overwhelmed and humbled" that the White House wanted to include his synagogue's 90-year-old menorah in this evening's ceremony.
