WEINER, AR (KAIT) - After board members voted 4 to 1 to close Weiner High School, residents of the town prepared for what is to come.
"That is just leading us into the next step which is going to be going down to the state board in Little Rock and presenting our case there," said Weiner resident, Greta Greeno, who comes from three generations of Weiner graduates and says she's worried what the closing of the campus will do to her hometown.
"It will be devastating for the town should the school close. You can look at rural schools all across not just in Arkansas, but where schools have closed and the town dries up," said Greeno.
She and other residents of the community are doing everything they can to keep their high school and trying to help out the ones who will be affected the most: the students, the parents, and the teachers.
For those students who are graduating this May, they're sadden by what could happen to their soon to be alma mater.
"I think it's real sad actually because this is where I grew up. I'm a senior here and this is like my second family so its real heart breaking," said Senior, Logan Bray.
