JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A new year can mean a resolution to get yourself back into a gym and making healthier life-style changes.
For many, sticking to that New Year's resolution year-round can be tough. 10 Fitness Manager, JJ Ryan often sees the same thing every year.
"Some people go at it maybe too quickly. They go at it too hard or too fast. Maybe coming twice a day or 7 days a week for three weeks straight and I think they just get burned out," said Ryan.
In many cases, people go into it with the mindset that if they work out every day, they'll lose all their weight quickly. Getting on a scale and finding out they've only lost a few pounds sometimes leads people to give up.
"They do it for a month or two and their goal was to lose 15 pounds and they got on the scale and they lost a pound. That's when they throw in the towel," said Ryan.
Always be sure to go at your own pace. Following someone else's workout routine can leave you discouraged. It's all about what works best for you.
"You don't have to keep up with a person. Your friend whose been working out for four years and try to make the same goals he's making," said Ryan.
The best advice is to make life-style changes that are realistic. Go at your own pace and you will be more likely to stay focused and devoted in 2013.
