Some local drivers have feared that a bridge collapse like the one in Washington State this week could happen closer to home. People have been particularly fearful of the aging Black River Bridge that connects Black Rock and Portia on U.S. 63 in Lawrence County.

AR (KAIT) - A Craighead County man is dead following a two vehicle crash in
Mississippi County.
According Arkansas
State Police, the crash happened on Interstate 55 near mile marker 67 in Mississippi
County around 11:15 Friday night. Police say
Daphne Tate of Bono was traveling southbound when he went into the northbound
lane and struck another vehicle head-on.
The crash report
indicates Tate was not wearing a seat belt. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Charles Davis of
Baytown, TX was taken to a Memphis hospital for his injuries. Police do not know if Davis was wearing a
seat belt.
