From Williams Baptist College
American Midwest Conference play is in full swing for the Williams Baptist College basketball teams, and the Lady Eagles earned their first conference victory of the year over Stephens College on Thursday night. The final score was 73-61 and was played in WBC's Southerland-Mabee Center.
The Lady Eagles led for the entire game, opening the contest with a 20-7 run in the first ten minutes. The Stars cut the lead to four at 30-26 with a few minutes remaining in the first half, but that would be the closest they would get. In the second half, Williams extended its lead up to 17 points before finishing with a 12 point margin.
WBC shot 45 percent from the floor, while holding Stephens to 33 percent. The Lady Eagles continued to impress on the boards, outrebounding the Stars 49-32. Williams is currently ranked sixth in the NAIA in rebounds and fourth in rebound margin.
Cheyenne Childers led the team in points and on the boards with 18 and 12 respectively. It was her second double-double of the season. Michaela Thompson, Tieara Burks and Jasmine Ford all added nine points for the Eagles. Thirteen different players scored for Williams and 14 played.
The win puts the Lady Eagles a game over .500 at 8-7 overall and 1-2 in the AMC. They will continue conference play on Saturday, January 12, at 2 p.m. They will host Park University in the Southerland-Mabee Center.
