ASU Bowling Secures Third Place Finish at Mid-Winter Invitational

JONESBORO, Ark. (ASU) – The Arkansas State women's bowling team was able to finish third in the Mid-Winter Invitational, held at the Jonesboro Bowling Center, by going 3-0 on the day.

The Red Wolves entered the bracket play portion as the sixth seed and were able to win their opening match against fifth-seeded and No. 13 Stephen F. Austin 4-0.  A-State moved on to face fourth-seeded and No. 9 Wisconsin-Whitewater for the right to go to the third place match.  Arkansas State was able to earn a 4-1 victory to advance.

ASU squared off against third-seeded and No. 3 Vanderbilt for the third place finish.  The Red Wolves won the first three games 223-190, 236-157, and 217-215 before dropping the fourth game 191-186.  A-State didn't wait long to clinch third place and was able to win the fifth game 195-140.

"We came out and bowled really well today," ASU bowling coach Justin Kostick said.  "I wish we would have bowled better the first two days and had a chance to compete for the championship, but I'm very happy with today and third place."

Arkansas State's record after the 11-2 weekend now sits at 35-15.  A-State's next tournament is the Prairie View Invitational in Arlington, Texas Feb. 1-3.
