COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

Former Gamecock wide receiver and quarterback Syvelle Newton confirmed Tuesday that he is returning to the team as an undergrad assistant this spring.

Newton says he's finishing up his degree in media arts on top of his assistant duties. He's also hoping to land a job as a high school head coach in the future.

Newton can help out with a number of positions. As a Gamecock, Newton played not only quarterback and wide receiver, but running back and defensive back as well.

After playing at South Carolina, Newton played for the Canadian Football League and the Arena Football League.
