One teen dead, two injured after truck collides with train

JACKSON COUNTY, AR (KAIT)- Jackson Co. authorities say one teenage boy has died, while two teenage boys are in Arkansas hospitals after their truck was hit by a train south of Tuckerman.

Jackson Co. Sheriff's deputies received a call about the accident at 4:49 this afternoon. They arrived to find three teenage boys, ages 18, 16, and 14, trapped in a 2002 Chevy Avalanche.

According to the crash report, the truck the teens were in was turning east on county road 1130 where it collided with a train.

All of the victims were taken to Harris Hospital in Newport. The 18-year-old died from his injuries, according to Jackson Co. Sheriff David Lucas, while the 16-year-old driver appears to have non-life threatening injuries and is being treated at Harris Hospital.

According to Jackson Co. authorities, the 14-year-old passenger was later flown to the children's hospital in Little Rock in critical condition as of Friday night.

All three teenagers are students at Tuckerman High School. Region 8 News is withholding the names of the victims as they are juveniles.

The Jackson Co. Sheriff's Office is investigating the accident and we will have the latest details as they are released on air and online, at kait8.com.
