Cooler breezes today; next shower chance, Friday - KAIT-Jonesboro, AR-News, weather, sports

Showers, storms return to North Carolina Friday

Updated:

Near perfect spring weather will continue Thursday in North Carolina, but another cold front with a chance of showers and storms arrives Friday.

The cold front seem to have work Wednesday with temperatures some 10 to 15 degrees cooler than Tuesday.  Highs in the Triangle made it to 71 while Fayetteville made it up to 78, both under windy conditions and sunny skies.

Overnight into Thursday morning winds will diminish, but so will the temperature as lows drop down to around 40 under clear skies.

The dry and pleasant weather continues Thursday with sunny skies expected and highs in the lower 70s.

Another cold front will approach on Friday and a few showers or storms are possible out ahead of the front. Highs on Friday will be in the upper 70s.

That front will weaken as it moves east across North Carolina Friday night.  As a matter of fact the air behind the front is mild from the Pacific in origin, instead of from Canada.  So on Saturday, with mostly sunny skies, highs will reach into the lower 80s.

Another front will try to drop down from the north on Sunday, but it now looks like it will stall near Virginia, so with partly sunny skies we should make it into the upper 70s.

That front will retreat even more to the north on Monday, so highs will be back into the upper 70s to near 80 with partly sunny skies.  There will be a slight risk of a late day shower on Monday.

By Tuesday another cold front will approach from the west and clouds will increase as well as our chances of showers with a possible storm.  Highs on Tuesday should be in the upper 70s, with much cooler air moving in behind the front on Wednesday.
