Nettleton School District Prepares For A New Addition

July 21, 2004--Posted at 6:30 p.m. CDT

JONESBORO-- The final coats of paint are drying on this 63,000, square foot addition to the Nettleton School District right here in Jonesboro.

Bob Casteel is the Associate Superintendent of Nettleton School District.

"If you know anything about Nettleton you know that we are experiencing quite a bit of growth, and we have for several years now,"said Casteel.

The brand new Fox Meadow Intermediate School will house fourth, fifth, and sixth graders, and neighbors Fox Meadow Elementary.

"We're going to have about three hundred kids, so that's probably 18 or 20 classrooms. We're going to have about 20 classrooms.  Our board of directors have brought up the idea that we need to keep our school districts fairly small, so we don't like to go over 500 students at each sight,"said Casteel.

Casteel says larger schools obviously cost more to operate, and administrators feel like a smaller school is more conducive for learning.

Due to the wet summer, dirt work and pavement delays have caused minor setbacks to the schools completion date.

While Fox Meadow intermediate school won't be open for registration on August second, school administrators do say the school will be open on August 19th, the first day of school.

"We will still have some workers in the building, but we will have tiles on the floors. That should be done this week,"said Casteel.

The cafeteria and gymnasium still need some work, but school administrators are anxiously waiting the schools completion.

They have assured us that it should be ready no later than the middle of September.....having the complete building turned over to us.
