Some local drivers have feared that a bridge collapse like the one in Washington State this week could happen closer to home. People have been particularly fearful of the aging Black River Bridge that connects Black Rock and Portia on U.S. 63 in Lawrence County.

NEWPORT, AR (KAIT) –
A Texas man is dead after being involved in a single vehicle accident
early Saturday morning.
According to
Arkansas State Police, Walter Owen Hall of Canton, TX was traveling north on
Highway 67 just north of Newport around 3:50 Saturday morning.
Police say Hall's pickup truck went off the
left side of the road. He overcorrected
and lost control.
Hall was ejected
from the truck. Police indicate that he was not wearing a seat belt.
