Teamsters Point Finger of Blame at Union Pacific's Jonesboro Operations for Accident in Pine Bluff

JONESBORO, AR - The International Brotherhood of Teamsters is pointing the finger of blame at Union Pacific's Jonesboro operations, as well as the Federal Railroad Administration for a July 9 accident that occured in Pine Bluff.

According to a Teamsters' news release, the crash of a UP freight happened when locomotives operated by remote control technology in Jonesboro crashed into the side of another train that was carrying hazardous materials.  Eleven cars derailed in the accident.

A Union Pacific spokesman responded to K8 News by downplaying the incident and issuing the following statement, "Remote technology in the rail industry is not new, and was studied in Canada for ten years before being used in the U.S.  It is very proven technology."
