According to a Teamsters' news release, the crash of a UP freight happened when locomotives operated by remote control technology in Jonesboro crashed into the side of another train that was carrying hazardous materials.  Eleven cars derailed in the accident.

A Union Pacific spokesman responded to K8 News by downplaying the incident and issuing the following statement, "Remote technology in the rail industry is not new, and was studied in Canada for ten years before being used in the U.S.  It is very proven technology."
