Rice Farmers Want to Sell to Iraq

SPRINGDALE, AR - Arkansas rice farmers say they want to sell their rice to Iraq.

The Arkansas Farm Bureau is meeting in Springdale, and rice growers say they want to make sure that U.S. rice is among the foods being shipped to Iraq.

Iraq was once among the largest customers for Arkansas rice, a market worth millions of dollars.

Arkansas produces nearly half of America's rice supply and the annual crop is worth nearly a billion dollars to the state economy.  Officials say only a comparatively small amount of U.S. rice is being sent to Iraq.

U.S. farmers recently won access to the Cuban market after 40 years of trade sanctions.
