BATESVILLE, AR - Authorities in Independence County today are investigating what appears to be a domestic dispute that turned into a murder-suicide late last night.

According to a news release from the Independence County Sheriff's Department, officers responded to a 911 call just before midnight, dispatching them to a residence at 169 Buckeye Drive in Batesville.  The call was reportedly from a child, who told the 911 operator his mother was in a bedroom with blood on her.  The child also said his father was asleep in the bed.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found three children inside the house, and quickly took them outside.  Deputies then found the body of a white female on a bed in an upstairs bedroom, dead of an apparent gunshot wound to the head.  Officers then found the body of a Hispanic male on the floor next to the bed, also dead of an apparent gunshot wound to the head.  A small handgun was found on the floor next to the bed.

The victims have been identified as 28-year-old Allison Lopez, and a man described as her "estranged" husband, 37-year-old Jose Lorenzo Lopez.

Both bodies have been sent to the state medical examiner for an autopsy, and the case is being investigated as a murder-suicide.
