Prairie Village couple develops secret to good night's sleep

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A Prairie Village couple says the secret to a good night's sleep is right in the produce aisle, and it could be the breakthrough so many have been praying for.

The secret is in the pink capsules containing a blend of three fruits, scientifically proven to make people sleep better and feel more refreshed when they wake up.

Adrienne and Gregory Doring are the brains behind the pills.

"It wasn't really inspiration it was desperation for us. We had just had our second child and as with a lot of new parents, sleep deprivation is a reality for us. We were still struggling to get to sleep at night," Gregory Doring said.

According to The National Sleep Foundation, about 70 percent of Americans suffer from insomnia on occasion or every night.

The couple wanted a natural sleep aid. Research led them to combine gogi berries, passion fruit and tart cherry. Supplement users can turn the bottle over see those are the only three ingredients.

According to the sleep-aid developers, the passion fruit helps calm and relax people. Tart cherries help regulate sleep problems and gogi berries help people to wake refreshed.

"It was really surprising to me that all these studies were out there showing that these fruits can help you sleep, and nobody had put them together yet," Gregory Doring said.

So the couple worked with pharmacists and nutritionists to develop a safe and effective combination.

"We had to have capsules made. We tried a few different versions. We had friends and friends of friends trying this and giving us feedback. We had a lot to learn about how you manufacture a dietary supplement. This isn't the business we were in before," Adrienne Doring said.

Their determination led them to BerrySleepy.com where people can buy the pills that were introduced to the world of dietary supplement just two weeks ago.

"It seemed like a really good opportunity, yet we were creating something that would help people and would make people's lives better," Gregory Doring said.

Right now, the product is only available on their website, but if sales are good, they want to sell their product in stores like Whole Foods.

Keep in mind that the Food and Drug Administration does not approve dietary supplements.

Doctors were reluctant to comment about this product because they had no studies to consult. However, health officials warn it is best to talk to a medical professional before taking any new product.
