Balloon release to kick off Black History Month

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – Kids learn all about the contributions of black Americans during Black History Month.

Students gathered on Wednesday to release balloons as a way to kick of the month.

Para-professional, Kathy Banks says students are doing special projects every day this month.

"They're excited about learning about different African American achievers who have paved the way for others. Each week we emphasize a different theme", Banks says.

Almost 200 students released balloons that were supplied by the Junior Auxiliary. The Jonesboro High School Step Team visited the children to introduce them to dance.

This is the second year for the event.
