Seven Gamecocks heading to the NFL Combine

Posted: Updated:
COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

Seven South Carolina Gamecocks have been invited to participate in the 2013 NFL Combine in Indianapolis.

According to the Athletics Department, tight end Justice Cunningham, spur DeVonte Holloman, center T.J. Johnson, running back Marcus Lattimore, wide receiver Ace Sanders, safety D.J. Swearinger, and defensive end Devin Taylor were invited to the NFL's yearly equivalent to a job interview.

At the Combine, players are evaluated on their speed, weightlifting, jumping, and intelligence through a series of tests.

The Combine also has the ability to raise or lower a player's profile among potential teams. For example, former cornerback Stephon Gilmore saw his draft stock take off after a phenomenal showing at last year's Combine. He was eventually drafted by the Buffalo Bills as the 10th overall pick in the Draft.

In the past two years, the Gamecocks have sent only six players to the Combine.

The Combine is scheduled for Feb. 23 to Feb. 26. The Draft, meanwhile, is April 25 to April 27.

With offenses becoming increasingly explosive, plugging the holes is more imperative than ever. It's no surprise Alabama and Florida top the list, but the rest of the rankings may surprise you.
