Hundreds of people hired to prepare for V-Day

(WMC-TV) - People across the country are getting ready for Valentine's Day but for one company, it means more than just gifts and dinner reservations... it means hiring.

Nearly 200 people were hired by Pugh's Flowers in order to keep up with the demand.

"It's by far the biggest event in the floral industry that there is," said Michael Pugh.

And to get everything done right and on time, the florist made nearly 200 temporary hires consisting of delivery drivers, phone operators, and floral arrangers in order to get ready for the big day.

Alice Casey has been hired to help with Valentine's Day arrangements.

"We do have a different variety of people. We have young people old people. All people," laughed Casey.

Pugh's Flowers has three locations across the Memphis area, so keeping up requires an influx of temporary workers.

"It's kind of the naughty and nice list. The drivers that make it come back, same with the floral arrangers, we invite them back," said Michael Pugh. "So we try to keep as much consistency as possible."

Hundreds of boxes will be filled with flowers come the big day.

On a typical day, Pugh's Flowers makes 200 deliveries, but on Valentine's Day, they make about 2,000.
