Whether online or in person taking advantage of childbirth
classes is very important and will help you in the long run. Don't roll into
this situation blind, especially if you are a single parent or it's your first
time. The classes will cover signs of early labor, different types of pain-relief,
delivery options, and what happens after the baby is born.
Many mothers (and fathers!) are terrified of the prospect of
the labor and delivery process. These classes will help inform and educate you,
as well as give you materials to look over and reference when you go home. I've
probably re-read the materials and watched videos time and time again; on top
of the handful of books I've been given!
If you can't get one of the local classes to fit your
schedule, you can find free classes online. There are numerous websites that
offer the education service, for free! A simple Google search will help you
find something or perhaps one of your favorite baby-related sites offers such a
class. That way, you can watch and learn from the comfort of your home, at your
own pace.
One of the best pieces of advice I've gotten that has really
helped me relax: You are the only one who can do this. And she is right. No matter how much I'd
like, no one else can go through laboring to deliver this child other than me.
